Founded in 1900, Alpha Lambda Phi Alpha began as a literary club for women at Occidental. In 1905, the club became the first sorority at Occidental and was named after the first letter of the Greek alphabet. The word 'alpha' represents the Greek word 'arete,' which means virtue, womanhood, dignity, character, and excellence of every kind. Today, we function as a local organization on Occidental's campus welcoming any female-identifying individuals and non-binary folks.
Alpha is a diverse group of dedicated, spirited, and loving individuals at Occidental College. We commit ourselves to the excellence of scholarship, friendship, and service to our siblings and community.
Our members are passionate about giving back. In addition, we are all very involved on campus; you can be sure to see us leading the various clubs and sports of Occidental. As siblings, we support each other through thick and thin.
