As a philanthropy-oriented sorority, community service is important to our organization and all of our organization's siblings. Our philanthropy is our local Planned Parenthood organization - Planned Parenthood of San Gabriel Valley (PPSGV). Founded in 1933 by members of the community, PPSGV is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality, affordable health care, and is backed by medical experts and over 100 years of research in reproductive care. Each year, PPSGV serves over 60,000 individuals and provides over 11,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education in local schools and colleges.
At Alpha, our philanthropy and fundraising chairs work hard year-round to organize numerous fundraisers. We donate to PPSGV so they can continue to ensure that everyone has access to the care that they need.
As a local organization, we also have the opportunity to expand our philanthropic outreach. In the summer of 2020, while all on lockdown during the pandemic, we held online fundraisers for Planned Parenthood and additionally worked to raise over $3,000 for Black Mamas Matter, an organization that works to advocate for "Black maternal health, rights, and justice." This past fall semester despite the obstacles we faced returning to campus during the pandemic, we raised over $1,000 for Planned Parenthood of San Gabriel Valley.
